Paul Pearman Belt Buckle

Paul Pearman works with mosaics, stained glass, murals, sculpture, graphic design and jewelry.  Having worked in mosaics for almost a decade, Pearman has recently returned to jewelry making with "Art for Your Hips," a collection of one of a kind belt buckles displayed at the gallery.  Each has the look and feel of a family heirloom.  His work is displayed in boutiques and galleries throughout the world.

Jo Watson is self-taught and motivated, working with functional pieces combining wood with other materials that often have humorous juxtapositions.  A Charleston resident for nearly 25 years, her work reflects aspects of the sea, her family and the exuberance of lowcountry life.  Each of her hand-crafted pieces has a raison d'etre and represents how she lives in the pursuit of original ideas.

Edisto Island's Nancy Fishback, started on the path to being an artist in the mid-1980s when she took a trip with her sister, a ceramic artist.  She became enthralled with the sense of community she found among the ceramic artists during the trip.  Displayed in previous Fish or Cut Bait shows featuring table-size ceramic chess sets, Fishback's recent focus has been upon Lincoln, a locally-bred stray who was rescued to become the neighborhood uniter.

"These three artists embody in their works the essence of the easy 'summertime' living we Edistonians enjoy almost all year," says Brailsford Foster, owner of the gallery, which this year celebrates it's seventh anniversary.

Painter Mac Rogers has lived part-time in the lowcountry since 1989 and moved to Beaufort in 2003.  He has spent many summers on Edisto Island and particularly enjoys the culture and history of the island, which serve as a foundation for his creative expression.  Rogers' work is featured in several galleries and individual collections.

Also featured at the show will be John Henry Tecklenburg, 16,  a promising young artist from Daniel Island.  Tecklenburg was first introduced to the public in 2006 by the Fish or Cut Bait Gallery, and has since sold numerous paintings, with his first commission coming from Father Francis Kline at Mepkin Abbey.  His oil on canvas for the commisssion is called "The Road to Mepkin," and started him on a career mentored by Gallery owner Brailsford Foster, who says "It's hard for me to put him in a style, he has his own.  But I love the way he sees and translates what he sees."

The new show will also feature jeweler Sharon McLean.  Sharon began her trademark Zola Jewelry in 1997, when she returned south from studying sculpture in New York City.  A South Carolina boutique owner saw McLean wearing one of her designs, placed an order and Zola Jewelry was born.  Her work features semiprecious stones, freshwater pearls, shells and vintage glass beads in a eclectic assortment with an organic feel inspired by nature.
